History

Florida Colors was founded by Luc and Carol Vannoorbeeck in 1993, the year after Hurricane Andrew completely destroyed their previous Hibiscus nursery.

Over the years they firmly established their reputation as not just a seller of Plumeria, but growers and hybridizers as well. They brought a number of species to the US, most famously the now ubiquitous Plumeria pudica and the irresistibly fragrant Plumeria stenopetala.

Their named Plumeria rubra cultivars - now numbering over 100 - have become favorites among Plumeria aficionados worldwide. Who would not want Abigail (a wonderful compact variety), Luc's Magnum Opus, Nebula or the profusely blooming Tex Huestis in their collection?

Rather than rooting them, Luc preferred grafting plumeria cuttings on an established rootstock, to create a stronger, more resilient plant, and this has become a benchmark of their Nursery. After Luc's untimely death in 2013, the excellent nursery practices established by them are being continued by his wife Carol together with her partners Tex and Kay Norwood, who came from Texas to join the nursery in 2012.'
